Julius-K9, family-owned company for dog harnesses

Who are we?

The brand

What does Julius-K9 mean?

Julius is the German version of the Hungarian first name Gyula, the inventor of the first Power harnesses (the K9®Power harness created in 1997 and its improved version IDC®Power in 2007).
K9 is pronounced in English [ˈkæˌnaɪn], just like the word “canine.” The number 9 is also Julius Sebö’s lucky number: when he adopted his first dog, he lived at 9 Kele Street in Budapest. The company’s first headquarters was also located at 9 Langobarden Street in Vienna.

Our story and values

The first K9®Power harness

Gyula and Anikó lived in Austria from 1990 to 1997, where Gyula worked as a dog trainer. They observed the daily needs of dogs and their owners and noticed that many people could not find the ideal dog harness among the available products.
In 1997, the family business Julius Export 2000 Bt. was founded and the JULIUS-K9® brand was launched. The first K9®Power dog harness was created. The company’s first headquarters was located in their 15 m² garage, which housed both the office and the warehouse. All profits from harness sales were reinvested in the business.
The Julius-K9® harness quickly became the favorite of Austrian and Hungarian canine units, and the brand’s reputation began to grow throughout Europe. The number of dogs wearing a Julius-K9® harness increased day by day. The main customers were law enforcement agencies and professional dog organizations.
In 2003, the unprecedented success of the K9®Power harness made waves at the World Dog Show in Dortmund, Germany. The Julius-K9® harness was recognized as highly innovative and met a real market need, both for professionals and for family dogs. The first logos appeared following a brainstorming session: each dog could now wear a nickname or personality trait to personalize its harness. The Julius-K9® harnesses thus made dogs “speak” like never before!

The IDC®Power harness revolution

In 2009, copies of our K9®Power harness began to multiply, especially those coming from Asia, and numerous legal actions were taken to prevent the production of harnesses resembling the K9®Power but not meeting its design and quality standards.
At the same time, Gyula “Julius” Sebő worked on a new, improved version of the original 1997 harness. The launch of the new IDC®Power harness in 2010 was a worldwide success: this new IDC (Innova Dog Comfort) version combined all the advantages of the original K9®Power model while correcting its flaws. Twenty innovations on the harness were patented the same year it was released.
The use of German materials reached 70% across the entire Julius-K9® range, while production capacity — fully based in Hungary — expanded to meet global demand.
